Contrary to what many people think: summer is a good time for Botox. The treatment is minimally invasive, is not affected by UV radiation, and takes effect within 3–7 days.
Sun after Botox — what does the research say?
UV light does not affect the Botox molecule. It sits intramuscularly, far below the pigment cells. Heat and sun can, however, temporarily increase blood flow, which could theoretically spread the toxin if you are exposed immediately after the injection.
The 24-hour rule
- No sunbathing for 24 hours
- No sauna or hot baths
- No intense exercise
- After 24h: normal activity OK
Does Botox wear off sooner in summer?
No — no study shows seasonal variation. The myth of "faster breakdown in heat" lacks evidence. Normal duration 3–4 months, regardless of the season.
Optimal timing
- 2 weeks before your holiday: The effect has had time to develop, any bruises have disappeared
- Right before departure: Avoid — swelling and bruising may linger
- During your holiday: Only OK if the clinic is as reliable as the one at home
Sun protection — same as always
SPF50 daily. Not for the Botox's sake — for your skin's. See the complete sun protection guide.
Summer Botox checklist
