Why get fillers in Stockholm?
Fillers are the second most popular treatment in Stockholm after botox, and the market here is very sophisticated — Stockholmers' expectations of natural, well-placed results are high. Lip enhancement without looking "inflated" is an art here, and many Stockholm clinics specialise in subtle filler techniques. One trend here is that many people use fillers to build up the cheekbones and define the jaw — rather than just for wrinkles. Many Stockholm influencers and media personalities use fillers, which has made them widely accepted. The combination botox + fillers is a standard "combo-treatment" here for those over 40.
Price level in Stockholm — what affects the price?
We only show price ranges when at least five clinics have stated a price with sufficient supporting data. When there is less data, we do not show an individual clinic's price as if it were a market price.
So compare the clinics' current price information and contact the clinic if the price or treatment plan is not clearly stated.
Many offer a "first-time discount" of 10–15% for new patients — it is worth asking.
- Stockholmers' "less is more" philosophy dominates — fewer and more subtly placed fillers than in other cities.
- Many clinics offer "consultation-only" appointments where you do not need to book a treatment on the same day. Ask the clinic what the consultation costs.
- Before/after photos at clinics here often focus on natural results — dramatic transformations are less popular.
- Patient reviews often mention specific techniques ("microfilling", "threading") — Stockholmers are well informed.
- Many Stockholm physicians have taken training courses in Italy or Switzerland to learn the best filler technique.
How does treatment with fillers work?
Fillers (usually hyaluronic acid-based) are gel injections that add volume, define contours or fill out lines. The most common areas are the lips, nasolabial folds, cheekbones, jawline and chin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body that binds water — it gives a natural result and can in most cases be dissolved with an antidote (hyaluronidase) if you are not satisfied. In Sweden, filler may only be injected by a licensed physician, dentist or nurse after a consultation. Before an aesthetic injection treatment, a cooling-off period of at least two days applies after you have received the information about the treatment. If the same type of injection treatment is repeated within six months, no new cooling-off period is required.

How the treatment is carried out — step by step
- 1
Consultation and treatment plan
The practitioner analyses your facial proportions, listens to what you want to achieve and proposes a plan. The amount, brand and technique are tailored individually. Photos are usually taken for a before/after comparison. Before an aesthetic injection treatment, a cooling-off period of at least two days applies after you have received the information about the treatment. If the same type of injection treatment is repeated within six months, no new cooling-off period is required.
- 2
Anaesthesia
Numbing cream is applied 15–20 minutes beforehand, or a local anaesthetic is given (particularly for the lips). Most modern fillers also contain lidocaine, which makes the treatment more comfortable.
- 3
The injections
The filler is injected with a fine needle or microcannula at predetermined points. The practitioner shapes and massages the material in place. You are usually allowed to look in the mirror during the treatment to check the result.
- 4
Immediately after the treatment
Mild swelling, redness and any small bruises are normal. The result is visible immediately, but the final result only shows once the swelling has subsided (1–2 weeks).
- 5
Follow-up
Follow-up visit after 2–4 weeks to evaluate the result. Adjustments can be made if needed — it is common to add a little more rather than to overtreat from the start (the "less is more" principle).
Recovery and aftercare
Filler requires minimal recovery, but swelling and any bruising are common in the first week, particularly with the lips. Most people can go back to work the same day, but plan important social occasions no earlier than 1–2 weeks after the treatment.
- Avoid massaging, pressing or touching the treatment area for 24 hours.
- Avoid intense exercise, saunas, sunbeds and hot baths for the first 48 hours.
- Sleep with your head raised the first night to reduce swelling.
- Avoid blood-thinning medicines (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E) for 24–48 hours if medically possible.
- Drink plenty of water — hyaluronic acid binds water and gives a better result.
- Do not use face masks, peels or harsh skincare for 1 week.
- For lip filler: a cold compress (through thin fabric) during the first few hours reduces swelling.
- If you notice bluish discolouration under the skin, persistent pain or white skin — contact the clinic URGENTLY (may indicate a vascular complication).
Who is suited to fillers?
Fillers in Stockholm are best suited to you if you have noticeable volume loss in the face (narrow cheekbones, thin chin, flat lips) and want a more defined, youthful appearance. They also suit those who have deep nasolabial lines (the creases between the nose and mouth) and want to fill them out without looking artificial. If you are over 35 and notice that your face has "sunk" — fillers are often the solution. They are NOT suitable if you are already happy with your lips and just want fewer wrinkles — then botox + skin boosters are better.
Who is not suited to fillers?
The treatment is not suitable in the following situations. Always mention these during the consultation.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Active infection or skin condition in the treatment area (acne, herpes, eczema in a flare-up).
- Known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine.
- Autoimmune diseases in an active phase, or ongoing immunosuppressive treatment.
- Ongoing blood-thinning treatment (Waran, Eliquis, etc.) — discuss with a doctor first.
- Previous permanent filler (silicone, polyacrylamide) in the area — risk of complications.
- Planned dental treatment or other invasive treatment in the area within 2 weeks.
- Unrealistic expectations or mental ill health linked to appearance — should be evaluated before treatment.
Differences between brands
Several different products are used in Sweden. The differences are often small — which brand suits you is decided by your practitioner based on your goals and previous treatments.
Restylane® (Galderma)
Swedish origin, longest on the market. Wide range for lips (Kysse), volume (Lyft, Volyme) and skin quality (Vital, Skinboosters). Typically lasts 6–18 months.
Juvéderm® (Allergan/AbbVie)
Allergan's Vycross technology gives products with an even consistency and longer duration — Voluma lasts up to 24 months for deep volume, Volbella is thinner for lips.
Belotero® (Merz)
Cohesive Polydensified Matrix (CPM) — integrates smoothly with the tissue. Good for fine lines and under the eyes, where other products can show as lumps.
Teosyal® (Teoxane)
Swiss brand focusing on dynamic areas (corners of the mouth, around the mouth). The RHA range is specially formulated for areas with a lot of movement.
Profhilo® (IBSA)
Not a traditional filler — a bio-remodelling hyaluronic acid that improves skin quality rather than adding volume. Treated separately (see Profhilo & Skin Booster).
When will you see the results?
- Immediately afterVolume and shape are visible immediately, but swelling makes the result look somewhat "bigger" than it will be.
- Day 1–3Swelling at its peak. Bruising may occur, particularly on the lips. Fades gradually.
- Week 2The swelling has subsided and the final result is starting to show. Time for an evaluation visit.
- Months 1–6Stable result. The hyaluronic acid integrates with the tissue and stimulates some collagen formation.
- Months 6–18The effect gradually wears off as the hyaluronic acid breaks down. Time for follow-up, depending on product and area.
Risks and what to consider
Mild swelling, redness or bruising at the treatment site. Usually disappears within a few days.
Choose a clinic with licensed staff, documented experience and valid liability insurance. Book a consultation first.
Unbelievably low prices, no consultation, unclear information about the practitioner. If so, you should keep looking.
Before your fillers in Stockholm
- Avoid blood thinners 48 hours beforehand — ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, vitamin E.
- Come without heavy make-up — the practitioner cleanses your skin thoroughly.
- Avoid strenuous exercise the day before — it increases swelling.
- Eat something high in protein beforehand (eggs, fish, beef) — it helps healing.
- Read about or watch a video on which type of filler the clinic uses — it makes your expectations realistic.
- Take a before photo at home the same morning — it helps you see the difference afterwards.
- Avoid drinking alcohol the day before or on the day.
Compare with similar treatments
Botox for wrinkles
Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles — fillers fill them. Both are often needed for the best result: botox for dynamic wrinkles, fillers for volume.
Skin boosters (Profhilo) for skin quality
Profhilo improves skin quality and elasticity without adding volume — fillers give shape. Many people combine both for a complete "refresh".
